Tillandsia bergeri Care Sheet:

Light:

  • Ideal Light Conditions: Tillandsia bergeri thrives in bright, indirect light. A location with filtered sunlight or artificial light is suitable.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Protect the plant from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, as this can lead to leaf burn.

Water:

  • Soaking: Submerge the air plant in room temperature water for about 20-30 minutes once a week. In hotter or drier conditions, more frequent soaking may be needed.
  • Shake Off Excess Water: After soaking, shake off excess water to prevent water from pooling in the base of the leaves, which can lead to rot.
  • Drying Time: Ensure the plant is completely dry within 4 hours of soaking to prevent issues such as rot or fungal growth.

Air Circulation:

  • Good Ventilation: Tillandsia bergeri requires good air circulation. After soaking, place the plant in a well-ventilated area to dry thoroughly.
  • Avoid Enclosed Containers: Avoid keeping the plant in enclosed terrariums or containers without adequate airflow.

Temperature:

  • Moderate Temperatures: Keep Tillandsia bergeri in moderate temperatures, ideally between 50°F to 90°F (10°C to 32°C).
  • Protection from Frost: Protect the plant from frost, as it is not frost-tolerant.

Display and Mounting:

  • Mounting Surface: Tillandsia bergeri can be mounted on various surfaces, such as driftwood, rocks, or decorative pieces. Ensure the mounting surface is porous to allow air circulation.
  • Avoid Soil: Air plants do not require soil. Instead, they obtain nutrients through their leaves.

Fertilization:

  • Light Fertilization: Feed the plant with a water-soluble, low-nitrogen fertilizer at one-quarter strength once a month during the growing season (spring to early fall).

Blooming:

  • Inflorescence: Tillandsia bergeri produces a colorful inflorescence when in bloom. The bloom period can last several weeks to months.
  • Post-Bloom Care: After flowering, the plant may produce offsets (pups) at the base. These can be left to grow or gently removed for propagation.

General Tips:

  • Regular Inspection: Regularly inspect the plant for signs of pests, disease, or dehydration.
  • Adaptation: Tillandsia bergeri can adapt to various environments, but it's essential to monitor its condition and make adjustments as needed.

By following these care guidelines, you can ensure that Tillandsia bergeri remains healthy and vibrant in your care. Adjust care practices based on the specific conditions in your environment.
