Dionaea muscipula ‘Ahriman’ (often misspelled “Alhriman”), tailored for growers and collectors 🌱
Introducing Our Venus Flytraps! 🌱🦟✨
Our Venus Flytraps are fresh out of the lab, meaning they are still young plants and not yet the large, mature specimens you may be familiar with.
Instead of sizing them by leaf size, we classify them mainly by rhizome size — the underground heart of the plant that determines future growth. 🌱

Care Sheet for Dionaea muscipula ‘Ahriman’
(Venus Flytrap)
Dionaea muscipula ‘Ahriman’ is a striking Venus Flytrap cultivar known for its deep red traps when grown in strong light. Like all Venus Flytraps, it requires specific care to thrive. Follow this guide to keep your plant healthy and vigorous.
Light Requirements:
Venus Flytraps require bright, direct sunlight to grow well and develop strong colour.
Provide at least 6–8 hours of direct sun daily. Outdoor growing is best.
If grown indoors, a strong grow light is essential.
More light results in redder traps.
Temperature:
Venus Flytraps enjoy warm conditions during the growing season, ideally between 18°C and 30°C.
They tolerate cooler nights but must be protected from extreme heat.
In winter, they require cooler temperatures to enter dormancy.
Watering:
Keep the soil constantly moist, but never allow it to dry out.
Only use rainwater, distilled water, or reverse osmosis (RO) water.
Water using the tray method, allowing the plant to absorb water from below.🚫 Tap water will damage and eventually kill the plant due to mineral buildup.
Soil:
Plant your Venus Flytrap in a nutrient-free, acidic growing medium.
A mix of peat moss and perlite or silica sand works best.
Do not use regular potting soil, compost, or fertilised mixes.
Potting:
Use a shallow pot with drainage holes.
Venus Flytraps have shallow roots and do not require deep containers.
Repotting is usually needed every 1–2 years or when the plant outgrows its pot.
Feeding:
Venus Flytraps are carnivorous and catch insects naturally when grown outdoors.
Do not feed regularly or unnecessarily.
Never feed meat, fish food, or fertiliser.
Healthy plants can thrive without manual feeding.
Humidity:
Venus Flytraps tolerate normal outdoor and indoor humidity levels.
Extra humidity is beneficial but not essential when grown correctly.
Good airflow is more important than high humidity.
Pruning:
Remove black, dead traps or leaves as they appear.
This helps prevent mould and keeps the plant healthy.
Avoid triggering traps unnecessarily, as this weakens the plant.
Winter Care (Dormancy):
Venus Flytraps require a winter dormancy period every year.
During winter, growth slows and some leaves may die back — this is normal.
Reduce watering slightly, keeping the soil just damp.
Ideal dormancy temperatures are 4°C to 10°C.Skipping dormancy will weaken the plant over time.
Pest Control:
Occasionally check for pests such as aphids or fungus gnats.
If needed, treat gently with appropriate insecticidal products safe for carnivorous plants.
By following these care guidelines, your Dionaea muscipula ‘Ahriman’ will grow into a strong, colourful, and fascinating carnivorous plant.
