Care Sheet for Drosera lantau

Drosera lantau is a cultivar of sundew known for its unique characteristics and beauty. Here's a care sheet to help you properly care for Drosera lantau 'Hendre':

  • Light Requirements:

    • Provide your Drosera lantau with plenty of bright, indirect sunlight. A location near a south-facing window where it can receive several hours of sunlight per day is ideal. However, be cautious of intense midday sun, as it can scorch the plant.
  • Temperature:

    • Maintain moderate temperatures for your Drosera lantau, ideally between 60°F to 80°F (15°C to 27°C) during the day. Avoid exposing the plant to temperatures below 50°F (10°C) or above 90°F (32°C), as extreme temperatures can stress the plant.
  • Watering:

    • Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water your Drosera lantau with distilled water, rainwater, or purified water to avoid mineral buildup. Water from below by filling the tray or pot saucer, allowing the plant to absorb water through its roots.
  • Soil:

    • Plant your Drosera lantau in a well-draining, acidic soil mix. A mixture of peat moss and perlite or sand works well. Avoid using potting mixes with added fertilizers or nutrients, as these can harm the plant.
  • Potting:

    • Use a shallow container or pot with drainage holes to plant your Drosera lantau. Avoid deep pots, as the plant's roots are relatively shallow. Repotting is typically not necessary unless the plant outgrows its current container.
  • Feeding:

    • Drosera lantau is a carnivorous plant that captures insects to supplement its nutrient intake. Allow the plant to catch prey naturally, as this is essential for its health. Avoid feeding it manually unless absolutely necessary.
  • Humidity:

    • While Drosera lantau can tolerate average indoor humidity levels, it benefits from higher humidity. If the air in your home is dry, you can increase humidity by placing a tray of water with pebbles beneath the plant's pot. Ensure the pot is not sitting in water to prevent waterlogging.
  • Pruning:

    • Trim away any dead or decaying leaves as needed to maintain the plant's overall health and appearance. Drosera lantau continuously produces new leaves, so occasional pruning may be necessary.
  • Winter Care:

    • During the winter months, reduce watering slightly and protect the plant from cold drafts. Drosera lantau can tolerate cooler temperatures, but it's best to keep it away from frost or extreme cold.
  • Pest Control:

    • Keep an eye out for common pests such as aphids, spider mites, and fungus gnats. If pests are present, treat the plant with insecticidal soap or neem oil, following the manufacturer's instructions.

By following these care guidelines, you can enjoy a healthy and thriving Drosera lantau in your home or garden.
