🌿 Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'
Golden Creeping Jenny – Combined Terrarium & Aquarium Care Sheet
🧬 Overview
Golden Creeping Jenny is a versatile, fast-growing plant known for its vibrant yellow-green foliage. It’s excellent for use in closed or open terrariums, paludariums, and ripariums. While it can tolerate full submersion in water, it thrives best in emersed or marginal zones.
☀️ Lighting
Terrarium: Bright, indirect light is best. Tolerates moderate light but may lose color.
Aquarium: Moderate to high light. Strong light keeps foliage golden and compact.
Avoid direct, scorching sunlight in enclosed setups.
🌡️ Temperature & Humidity
Ideal Temperature: 18°C – 28°C
Humidity (Terrarium): 60–90%
Humidity (Aquarium): Naturally high in emersed/riparium conditions
Water pH (Aquarium): 6.0 – 7.5
Hardness: Soft to moderately hard
💧 Watering / Water Conditions
Terrarium: Keep substrate moist, not soggy. Never allow to dry out.
Aquarium: Can be grown with roots submerged and foliage above water.
Fully submerged growth is possible short-term but may rot over time.
Use rainwater or RO/distilled water if possible for long-term health.
🌱 Growth Habit
Low-growing, spreading, and trailing habit.
Spreads horizontally across the substrate or cascades downward from edges.
Can root at nodes and be trimmed to shape or propagated easily.
✂️ Maintenance & Pruning
Trim regularly to:
Prevent overgrowth in terrariums
Promote bushy form
Remove any rotting submerged stems
Propagate easily from stem cuttings placed in moist substrate or water.
🪴 Substrate
Terrarium: Moisture-retaining mix (peat/coco coir + perlite), with drainage layer.
Aquarium: Plant in riparium cups, marginal zones, or near the water’s edge in shallow setups. Use nutrient-rich substrate if fully planted.
⚠️ Tips & Placement
Terrarium: Excellent groundcover or trailing feature.
Aquarium: Best in paludariums, shallow tanks, or open-top setups. Not suited for deep, fully submerged growth.
Pairs well with ferns, mosses, and other moisture-loving plants.
🌟 Fun Fact
In the wild, Creeping Jenny thrives on the edges of streams and wetlands—making it naturally suited to humid and semi-aquatic environments!
