π Cubaris murina 'Orange' Isopods β Vibrant, Hardy Tropical Isopods! π
Cubaris murina 'Orange' is a beautiful and hardy isopod morph known for its warm orange tones and smooth, rounded body shape. Unlike many other Cubaris species that can be delicate and slow-growing, Cubaris murina is far more forgiving and adaptable, making it an excellent introduction to the Cubaris genus.
These small tropical isopods are perfect for bioactive terrariums, where they help break down organic matter while adding subtle colour and movement to the enclosure.
πΏ Why Choose Cubaris murina 'Orange'?
β Soft Orange Colouration β A warm, natural orange tone that stands out against leaf litter.
β Hardier Cubaris Species β Easier to keep compared to many cave-dwelling Cubaris.
β Great for Bioactive Setups β Helps break down waste, leaves, and organic debris.
β Small & Peaceful β Perfect for tropical terrariums and vivariums.
β Moderate Breeders β Colonies grow steadily under stable conditions.
π οΈ Care Guide
πΉ Enclosure: A plastic tub or terrarium with small ventilation holes works well. Maintain good humidity while allowing gentle airflow.
πΉ Substrate: Provide a 5β8 cm deep substrate made of organic soil or coco fiber mixed with plenty of leaf litter, rotting hardwood, and sphagnum moss. Adding small pieces of limestone or cuttlebone provides valuable calcium.
πΉ Temperature: Ideal temperatures are 22β26Β°C (72β79Β°F). Avoid long periods below 20Β°C.
πΉ Humidity: Maintain 70β85% humidity. Keep most of the substrate moist, with a slightly drier area to prevent stagnant conditions.
πΉ Hiding Spots: Cork bark, moss patches, and thick leaf litter provide essential shelter and help maintain humidity.
πΉ Food: Feed decaying leaves, rotting wood, fish flakes, shrimp pellets, vegetable scraps, and provide cuttlebone or crushed eggshells for calcium.
π£ Breeding & Colony Growth
πΉ Moderate breeders compared to faster species like Porcellio laevis.
πΉ Females carry eggs in a brood pouch before releasing tiny mancae.
πΉ Stable humidity, warmth, and a constant supply of leaf litter help colonies grow steadily.π₯ A Perfect Beginner Cubaris!
Cubaris murina 'Orange' offers the charm and exotic look of the Cubaris genus while being much easier to care for than many rare species. Their attractive colour, manageable size, and helpful clean-up behaviour make them an excellent addition to bioactive terrariums and dedicated isopod colonies alike. π
