1. Plant Description: Canna "Durban" is a striking aquatic plant known for its vibrant foliage and stunning flowers. This variety of Canna is well-suited for pond settings, where its tall stems and lush green leaves add both beauty and functionality to the aquatic ecosystem.

2. Sunlight Requirements: Canna "Durban" thrives in full sun to partial shade conditions. Ensure that your pond receives at least 6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight daily for the best growth and flowering.

3. Water Depth: When planting Canna "Durban" in your pond, place it in water with a depth of 2 to 6 inches. This depth allows the plant to establish its roots in the substrate while still having access to ample sunlight.

4. Soil and Substrate: Choose a heavy loam or clay soil mix for planting Canna "Durban" in your pond. Plant the rhizomes directly into the substrate at the recommended water depth. Adding a layer of aquatic gravel or sand over the soil can help anchor the plant and prevent soil erosion.

6. Water Quality: Maintain good water quality in your pond. Regularly check and adjust the pH levels to keep them between 6.5 and 7.5, as Canna "Durban" prefers slightly acidic to neutral water. Ensure that your pond water is free from pollutants and toxins to promote healthy growth.

7. Pruning and Deadheading: To encourage continuous blooming and maintain a tidy appearance, remove spent flowers and yellowing leaves as they appear. Pruning can also help prevent overcrowding.

8. Winter Care: In colder climates, Canna "Durban" may not survive the winter if left in the pond. You can either lift the rhizomes and store them indoors during the winter months or cover them with a thick layer of mulch to protect them from frost.

9. Pests and Diseases: Canna "Durban" is generally resilient to pests and diseases when grown in ponds. However, occasional inspection for pests like aphids and caterpillars is a good practice. Treat any infestations promptly with appropriate pesticides if necessary.

10. Companion Planting: Consider planting Canna "Durban" alongside other aquatic plants like water lilies, irises, or pickerelweed to create a visually appealing and ecologically balanced pond environment.
