Venus Flytrap Care Sheet

Venus Flytraps are one of the world's most fascinating carnivorous plants. Despite their reputation, they are surprisingly easy to grow when given the right conditions.

β˜€οΈ Light

Provide as much direct sunlight as possible. A minimum of 4–6 hours of direct sun daily is recommended, with full sun producing the strongest growth and best trap colour.

πŸ’§ Water

Only use rainwater, reverse osmosis (RO) water, or distilled water. Never use tap water unless you know it contains very low dissolved minerals.

Keep the growing medium consistently moist by standing the pot in 1–2 cm of water during the growing season.

🌱 Growing Medium

Use a nutrient-poor carnivorous plant mix such as sphagnum peat moss with perlite or silica sand. Never use normal potting soil or compost.

🍽 Feeding

Plants grown outdoors or in a greenhouse will catch their own insects. Indoor plants can occasionally be fed a small live insect, but feeding is generally unnecessary.

Never fertilise the soil.

🌿 Feeding for Maximum Growth

Due to customer demand and after years of experimentation, we developed our own specialist nutrient specifically for carnivorous plants.

Botaniqra CarniFuel is designed to safely supplement your Venus Flytrap's nutrition and can significantly boost growth when used correctly, especially for plants grown where natural insect prey is limited.

πŸ’š a Light foliar feeding every 2 weeks exactly as directed on the product instructions.

πŸ‘‰ Available here: Carnifuel

While Venus Flytraps are naturally adapted to survive without supplemental feeding as they catch insects naturally and use sunlight, BUT regular feeding with Botaniqra CarniFuel helps promote stronger growth, larger traps, and healthier plants throughout the growing season.

❄ Winter Dormancy

Venus Flytraps naturally enter a winter dormancy each year. During this period the leaves may die back, traps become smaller, and the plant may appear dormant or even dead. This is completely normal and is essential for long-term health.

During winter we may ship healthy dormant rhizomes with little or no foliage. The rhizome is alive and will produce fresh new growth once temperatures rise in spring.

Reduce watering during dormancy by keeping the growing medium just damp rather than waterlogged.

🌸Flowering

Healthy mature plants may produce flower stalks in spring. Unless you wish to collect seed, removing the flower stalk early can help the plant direct more energy into producing larger traps.

πŸ“ˆ Growth

Venus Flytraps grow steadily each year, producing larger clumps over time. With proper care they can live for many years and become increasingly impressive with each growing season.
